The ‘lyre’ is a small sheet music holder used by brass band and marching band musicians to hold printed parts whilst ‘on the march’. There are two common designs of trombone lyre: those that grip the bell or those with a ring attachment that fits onto the leadpipe (between the mouthpiece receiver and the slide lock). The choice depends upon what suits a particular instrument or the player's preference.
