Manufacturer's description:
'Deeply haunting and slightly hollow, the Jo-Ral trumpet bucket mute provides a truly distinctive sound. Its soft, muffled tones add tremendous dimension, and its unique straight shape allows for quicker transitions.
Made of spun aluminum, Jo-Ral bucket mutes have been tested to perform evenly in all registers, creating an exciting tonal quality that results in near perfect intonation. The mutes also feature neoprene-enhanced composite cork pads that grip well and don’t dry out, become brittle or break off, and so last longer while easily accommodating fine adjustments for a perfect fit.'
The bucket mute, also known as the velvet-tone (or velvetone), is like an upturned can filled with sound-absorbent material attached to the outside of the bell. It originated with early jazz trumpeters, and produces a soft, smooth sound. Some are clipped to the rim of the bell, but this model manufactured by Jo-Ral Mutes is inserted into the bell, allowing for quicker changes.
