Over a year in development, this mute is a close relative to the highly successful euphonium travel mute. It fits flush inside the bell, so can sit inside the instrument whilst in its case. The performance is terrific, its main features being:

• a quiet and even sound
• excellent intonation throughout the range
• even response and feels very natural to play
• very clear high and low tones
• a lie-flat leather handle for easy handling

Practice mutes have a similar conical design to straight mutes but with a solid cork bell seal to block off the sound. Air flow is greatly reduced and escapes almost silently through a small hole in the body of the mute. They are used for warming up and practising without disturbing the peace.
