Launched in June 2024, the Besson Sovereign 969 extends the renowned French manufacturer’s line of large-bore four-valve compensating euphoniums. Development was overseen by David Childs and addressed player comfort and set-up flexibility.
The 969 is lighter weight than the 2052 Prestige, with a slightly smaller bell diameter and a straighter leadpipe than the 967 Sovereign for a more relaxed and comfortable playing position.
The instrument is also equipped with six interchangeable leadpipe adaptors, allowing the use of small-, medium- or large-shank mouthpieces and for the leadpipe gap to be modified to suit the player’s preference.
