The A42X is one of nine standard combinations in the Vincent Bach modular Artisan trombone range, which comprises a wide choice of bells, valve sections, tuning slides and hand slides.

The A42X combines an Artisan A47X valve section with a 42 model bell. The 42 taper is more gradual compared with the 47 model, offering a little more breadth of sound. The X-wrap design was developed to achieve a balanced resistance and improved air flow throughout the valve section.

Other features include: the standard Artisan rotor with a shorter throw and improved transition between notes; three interchangeable brass leadpipes; ergonomically-designed rosewood thumbrest.
