Ultra-Pure Ultra-light synthetic valve oil is intended for very tight pistons or rotors, particularly those of brand-new instruments. Also makes a great rotor oil for French horns.
Modern French horn rotary valves require three different grades of oil. From thickest to thinnest they are: bearing oil, linkage oil and rotor oil. Apply the first two each week, if you play regularly. When a valve become sluggish, drip a tiny quantity of rotor oil directly into the rotor casing, having first removed the valve slide to allow access.
Valve oil is essential for keeping all valved brass instruments in good playing condition. If you play regularly, we recommend every week removing each valve in turn, wiping it clean with a lint-free cloth, and applying a small amount (two or three drops) of valve oil before carefully refitting.
