Frank Holton (1858–1942) was a professional trombonist in John Philip Sousa’s band before setting up his own highly successful instrument manufacturing business.
One of his first ventures in the late 1890s was developing his own formula slide oil, which he sold from a small rented shop in Chicago. It remains a popular choice for trombonists.
Slide lubricant is essential for keeping a trombone playing slide in good playing condition. If you play regularly, we recommend every week removing the playing slide, wiping the slide legs clean with a lint-free cloth, and reapplying lubricant according to the manufacturer's instructions.
